Last night the USC Varsity Hockey team won in thrilling fashion over Canon-McMillan 5-4 in overtime. The win improved the Panthers record to 9-3-1 and moved them into sole possession of second place in the tight, competitive AAA division.
Sam Sweet got the Panthers going with a huge goal after USC spotted Canon-Mac a 2 goal lead. Devin Rohrich then tallied 2 second period goals to keep the game tied at 3-3. Canon-Mac made it 4-3 with 17 seconds left in the second period and the game looked to possibly end that way as they frustrated the Panthers the entire third period. Mitch Geinzer pulled out a shorthanded goal to tie it with 1:50remaining. In overtime, playing 3 on 3 Sam Sweet won the game for the Panthers with his second goal of the game! Jake Fisher stopped 33 of 37 shots making several huge saves late in the game.
The next game is Monday, Jan 20 at 9:10pmvs rival Mt. Lebanon at Mt. Lebanon Ice Center.
