Boys Varsity Basketball defeated in second round of PIAA Playoffs 77-73 

Upper St Clair boys basketball traveled to Robert Morris’ UPMC Events Center for a second round PIAA playoff matchup vs WPIAL Champion Butler. The game was a rematch of a closely contested WPIAL semifinal game that went to overtime.

USCs Landon Rauch started the game off with an electrifying dunk which sparked energy to the team and fans alike. The wave of energy helped the Panthers force turnovers and hit 5 first quarter 3s to take a 32-23 lead. The pace slowed down in the seconds quarter but the Panthers still found themselves up 44-38 heading into halftime.

Butler got their first lead with 3:50 left in the third quarter but USC would go on a run to end the third up 61-51. Butler took the lead with 2:20 remaining in the game thanks to 2 made free throws. USCs Josh Russell sank a 3 with 57.2 seconds remaining to cut Butler’s lead to 74-73 before Butlers Ethan Morton made 3 of 4 free throws to clinch the win. The Panthers leading scores were Ethan Dahlem (18) Dave Pantelis (14) and Josh Russell (13).
