Athletics & Extracurricular Activities paused until Jan. 4
Beyond the classroom, the Limited-Time Mitigation Order prohibits all (indoor and outdoor) in-person athletics and extracurricular activities until Jan. 4. This includes our middle and high school teams as well as intramural, youth and community/recreational sports. The Upper St. Clair Athletic Department, is working collaboratively with our colleagues from other districts and the WPIAL to effectively plan for the return of the winter sports season in January. Clubs and teams are permitted and encouraged to stay connected virtually throughout this three-week period. Athletics and activities play a pivotal role in the overall well-being of many students. We are committed to resuming all athletics and activities as soon as permitted.
Please find below the Press Release from the PIAA regarding the Governor’s Order:
The WPIAL Executive Staff will be meeting with winter sports steering committees next week and provide a report to the Board during the December 21, 2020 meeting with recommendations (to the farthest extent possible) on how to conduct post-season events utilizing the latest dates possible while maintaining a meaningful championship experience. Several options will be discussed and efforts will be made to reduce conflict between schools’ masking policies and extend deadlines as far out as we can. It is our hope that schools will be able to pick up their schedules in January (whenever each school is able to begin) and then be able to add lost contests from December at the back end of the season in February.
We will get thorough this TOGETHER. Please be safe and well!
